My Topical Review Paper Outline

Specific Innovation of Interest
Technology in the Health Care Industry: Electronic Health Records

Rationale for Selecting this Innovation

While technology plays an important part in our daily lives, but I felt that the impacts it brings to the Health Care industry have to be improved in order to satisfy the needs of the future tech-savvy people.

Background/Introduction
Online prescription and health screening have been made available but in actual, when one goes to a health care centre or any hospital, they will have to go through the hassle to fill in the form about their past medical history and relevant particulars in order to proceed further. Not only that, upon meeting any new medical personnel or doctors, they will have to repeat the same process again. Electronic Health Records is one technology that was newly introduced but yet not being widely used yet.

Current Situation

The negative impact of the Electronic Health Records:
  • How does it affect users?
  • Will privacy be invaded easily?
  • Is it really error- proof?
  • The information of a certain patient might be used wrongly at the wrong time
  • The feedbacks from the professional on what issues were faced

The positive impacts of Electronic Health Records:
  • The convenience it has brought to patients
  • How has hospital and doctors benefited
  • How information is easily accessed and retrieved in times of need
  • The level of efficiency that have been increase in the Health Care Industry

Future Considerations
  • Patients can also get accessed information about their medical history
  • Electronic Health Records is being used daily even in private clinics
  • Even X- Ray results can be done and transferred at home to the hospitals
  • Electronic Health Record can be a part of M- commerce in the future

Conclusions

  • Electronic Health Records is not longer a new technology or platform to share information
  • Every place is using Electronic Health Records including private and small clinics
  • M- commerce will be incorporating such technology in the future to satisfy the future generation who are more tech – savvy than those in the 21st century

  1. Hey:)
I think your outline is alright. For the future considerations part, maybe you can add in some new technology to transfer medical information from one nation to another for example when patients migrate, they want their medical records with them but i dont think they can have the information. Perhaps patients can bring along a card which the doctors can scan, once they scan it they have full details of the patients medical records. And this card is international, just a suggestion which you can develop further.

But besides that, everything is alright:)

  2. Your outline looks good so far! You manage to cover a lot of breadth without missing lacking much info.

I've never head of Electronic Health Records so far and I don't think the majority of people will do either so do remember to put in a substantial introduction. :) Another suggestion to further organize your report is to consider how electronic health records will impact the medical field and the patient. Like maybe look at both sides of the coin haha.

Another problem you might also encounter is finding sources. Make sure to back up all your claims, especially the future considerations part.

But good so far! Seems like an interesting paper! :)

  3. Hiiii, Siti here.
Your outline looks good and it looks like you've thought out a lot on how to develop your essay :)
Anyway, I agree with Kara. I haven't heard of electronic health records before and it's good to give substantial intro on it :)
If I remember correctly, there are some hospitals which still insists on writing medical records manually such as SGH. Maybe you can explore why some hospitals do not want to adopt this and why others do?
    Hope this helps :)
